Enjoyment and Enrichment

Welcome to our website. We hope that you will find it informative and that these pages capture something of the distinctive ethos we strive to create.
We believe West Pennard is a special place and we have many strengths, not least our high standards, quality of care, a curriculum invigorated through enrichment activities and a tremendous team of dedicated staff.
I am proud to say that we are a school which has much to celebrate, not least our wonderful location. Our children are encouraged to take a pride in this favoured setting and to play their part in maintaining its richness.
We believe that the Christian Foundation of the school supports the values which we encourage and many families bring their children to West Pennard with this factor in the forefront of their minds. We enjoy excellent links with St Nicholas' Church whilst at the same time benefiting from regular visits from the clergy of the local parishes.
Our child-friendly aims sum up the importance of all members of the community respecting each other and the school environment. These aims, shown below, are based around the RESPECT mnemonic and reflect the values and attitudes we hold dear.

Our motto "To Try is to Triumph" remains the ideal by which we all live and it is my belief that the commitment and enthusiasm of the staff in both enjoying and supporting your children to realise this aim, remains vital. If we have high expectations the children will aspire to great things whatever their talents may be. I hope you will find the website sufficiently detailed to create a picture of a very happy, welcoming and successful school. If you would like to find out more please ring the school and I would be delighted to show you round. You will be made most welcome.

Year 4 Henry VIII

We had our e-safety week in school. The children all learnt about the importance of staying safe on the internet. They had lessons on digital literacy, looking at the credibility of information on websites, as well as on issues around social networking sites and password security. On Tuesday it was Safer Internet Day. The parents were invited to a special assembly, organised by children in Year 4. They taught the school a song about the importance of e-safety and acted out a number of potential risks of using the internet or emerging technologies. Following the assembly, the parents had the opportunity to attend a focused meeting with Mr Wheat and Julia Briggs, a county ICT advisor. Many thanks to all the parents that could attend.
On Monday the football team played their third game of the season, this time against Meare, away. They had previously won 14-0 and 5-1 against Baltonsborough and Elmhurst respectively. We won 6-0 with some really strong performances from Oscar, George and Dylan. Our next game is against Brookside on 29th February.
