On
Tuesday, four of our pupils from Year 5 attended the SWGfL ICT
Conference in Torquay. We were invited to attend the conference by the
Somerset ICT advisors as they wanted us to explain how we use ICT
effectively in our learning. We had an area of the conference hall to
display some of the work we have produced and for the children to
demonstrate their skills. to the deligates. The children really enjoyed
the opportunity to share their expertise and to see some of the
technology that will be coming into schools in the coming years. A
great many thanks to Mr Cowan and Mrs Hale for coming along to help.
On
Wednesday we were visited by two inspectors working on behalf of NACE
to assess our provision for Gifted and Talented children. The
inspection was the final part of the assessment process to achieve the
NACE Challenge Award, a very prestigious standards accreditation that
only 177 schools, both Primary and Secondary across the entire country,
have been awarded. The process was lead by Mrs King and involved a
tremendous amount of work to evidence all of the opportunities we
provide for pupils at West Pennard. We can now announce that we are the
first primary school in Somerset to achieve the award. A big well done
to all the staff and particularly Mrs King for all her hard work!
On
Friday we had our Sports Day. The children all had the opportunity to
compete in a round robin of activities before competing in running
races for their teams. The event was finished off by the Leavers' Race,
which, again this year, featured some quite colourful costumes. A great
many thanks to Mrs Amor for organising the event!
