An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the teaching team of our popular, thriving village primary school. West Pennard CE Primary School was graded as ‘Outstanding’ in two areas, and ‘Good’ in all other areas (Ofsted February 2025). 

Applicants should:

Professional Expertise

  • Be able to demonstrate a deep understanding of early childhood development and how young children learn best.
  • Be experienced in leading or coordinating phonics and early reading initiatives across EYFS and Key Stage 1 or keen to develop in the role to be able to.
  • Be confident in delivering systematic synthetic phonics (SSP) programmes e.g. Bug Club Phonics.
  • Be skilled at using assessment data to drive improvement and inform targeted interventions.
  • Be able to model outstanding teaching practice and support colleagues through mentoring or coaching or keen to develop in the role to be able to.
  • Be familiar with the latest educational research and government guidance relating to phonics, reading, and the EYFS Framework.

Leadership and Collaboration

  • Be able to inspires and motivate others with a positive, can-do attitude.
  • Be able to demonstrate initiative and creativity in improving curriculum delivery and pupil outcomes.
  • Be able to work effectively as part of a team, building strong professional relationships across all phases.
  • Be able to communicate clearly and confidently with staff, pupils, parents, and external agencies.
  • Be a reflective practitioner who welcomes feedback and is committed to professional growth.

Job 2

Teaching Assistant (One-to-One)

West Pennard CE Primary School

31.25 hrs per week (1:1 role)

1:1 Grade 15 point 3-4 

Required from 5th January 2026 or sooner if available.

 

We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and friendly one to one Teaching Assistant to support a child with specific learning needs on a one-to-one and small group basis.

We are looking for someone who:

·         Has experience or an interest in working with children with complex needs.

·         Can develop confidence and self-esteem but also establish clear boundaries

·         Is experienced in working with children who have special educational needs, has a flexible and adaptable approach to meeting children’s needs, with a resilient mind-set.

·         Can demonstrate good communication, listening, and questioning skills

·         Is committed to inclusion

·         Is able to promote high standards of behaviour through positive language and attitudes

·         Is aware of dysregulation strategies, support for speech and language challenges and able to use play-based approaches 

·         Has the ability to remain calm under all circumstances

·         Is willing and able to work collaboratively and flexibly with staff, parents/carers and other agencies as required.

 

The role will involve supporting a child who has specific needs.

This is a term time post of 31.25 hours per week.  Term time only. Monday to Friday 8:30 to 3:15 with 30 minutes for lunch.
