Enrichment

Enrichment Days

Every Friday the children from Year 1 to 6 take part in lessons that are intended to enrich and also to deliver aspects of the broader curriculum. Children, through the year, have lessons in Art, PE, Cooking, STEM, Eco-education, Music and Forest School, to name but a few.

ALL children from Year 1 to 6 swim for two half terms every year.  Year R have Forest School activities every week and ALL children from Year 1 to 6 have Forest School with a trained Forest School leader for a half term per year, every year.

Min, from Happy Mojos, delivers a weekly whole-school wellbeing programme, supporting body and mind through movement.

These fun and engaging sessions cover six key areas – move, play, breathe, sense, empower and chill; meeting social, emotional, and mental health needs, specific to primary aged children and linked to EYFS and the school curriculum.

Each programme focuses on self-discovery, emotional literacy and building positive relationships, whilst nurturing self-esteem and resilience, to help children be shiny from the inside out!

Community Links

We have strong and growing links with our community. In recent years we have been involved in the Queen's Jubilee Village Street Party as well as the King's Coronation. As part of our values days at the end of each term, the children create community gifts that are given to friends and residents in the village. We display work in the local churches and the village hall and encourage our children to develop their interests with local clubs and societies. The children's exploits and achievements out of school are celebrated as part of our weekly Celebration Assemblies.

We have a wide-range of extra-curricular clubs on offer each week (16 per term this year), led by school staff and members of the community or community clubs. We hope that in offering these opportunities it may foster an interest in these activities beyond the school gates. Every Friday we hold enrichment days with lessons in cookery, tai chi, Forest School, swimming, music and art (to name but a few).

Our choir visit the local churches every Christmas to sing carols to our community, and we do the same for the residents of the village care home. They are involved in events in the area also, such as the Wells Cathedral Christmas Concert.

We welcome visitors to the school and make use of our surroundings. We frequently visit the Rural Life Museum in Glastonbury and have 12 workshops a year delivered by South West Heritage, all in order to enhance our curriculum and better the understanding of the children and their motivation to learn.

We engage with the Wells Festival of Literature and take part in author visits and book clubs with other schools locally, in order to foster a lifelong love of reading.
